Martin was born June 14th 1956 in St. Albans, Hertfordshire- a typical Gemini! He plays guitar, tenor banjo, mandolin, mandola, and has ambitions to play the Highland pipes, but mainly he plays the fiddle. He envies singers their ability. Likes playing a wide variety of music including traditional Irish, Scottish, Quebecois, and Breton tunes; he plays Bluegrass, Swing, Ragtime and Eastern European music.

Martin enjoys sailing and has sometimes combined sailing trips with musical visits abroad. Martin lived in Cardiff for 10 years and played with a group of friends in a band there, playing Ragtime, Folk and Blues. Martin and the late Graham Morgan had a great guitar and fiddle duo and had a lot of fun together playing in many different venues including bars in Romania.

He has had links with Cornwall since childhood and moved there in 1986, and lives, works and plays music in and around the North Cornwall area.

 

Abut 15 years ago Martin teamed up with Sue White and together with Tony Tailor perform as the Goonhillies playing a mix of Cornish, Scottish, Irish and Breton songs and music as well as bluegrass and a touch of country blues; a rich and eclectic range of great music and songs.

Martin also plays with the Damnbuskers, and performs at
medieval banquets and other functions. He Has toured playing fiddle in the Western Isles of Scotland and has fond memories of Oban and Tobermory. He has also made frequent trips to Brittany and has played many at events there. Martin plays regularly as a sessions musician for other musicians and has featured on many records, tapes, and C.D.s.including Sue White's CDs Padstow Mayday and Other Cornish Folksongs and Best of Cornish Folksongs Vols I and II.
